Application of fuzzy randomness to time-dependent reliability

In: Safety and Reliability of Engineering Systems and Structures Proceedings of the 9th Int. Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability, edited by Augusti, G.; Schueller, G.I. and Ciampoli, M.. Millpress, Rotterdam, pages 1709–1716.

In the paper a new safety concept is presented considering time-dependent data uncertainty of fuzzy random type. Time-dependent data uncertainty leads to a time variant reliability of structures. The fuzzy failure probability depending on the time τ is introduced as measure of the reliability. Based on the α-level optimization the fuzzy failure probability is computed by the fuzzy Monte Carlo simulation (FMCS). In order to decrease the numerical effort of the fuzzy Monte Carlo simulation the fuzzy adaptive importance sampling method (FAIS) is introduced. An example demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed procedure.
