Uncertainty Analysis in Civil Engineering Using Fuzzy Modeling
In: 7-th International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering. , Seoul, pages 1425–1430.
The application of fuzzy modeling in civil engineering opens up new possibilities for describing non-stochastic uncertainties in the input parameters for the analysis of supporting structures. Input information is assessed during fuzzification with the aid of possibility scales. In the subsequent fuzzy analysis the fuzzy input values are processed to yield a fuzzy result by applying α-discretization and the generation of uncertain input domains. It is thereby important to take account of special characteristics in the applied algorithms. The final safety assessment is carried out on the basis of possibility theory. By evaluating the fuzzy results in conjunction with prescribed failure functions, existing failure possibilities are computed. Permissible failure possibilities are prescribed for specific cases. Probabilistic values may serve as a guide for this purpose.
